Pinellas lawmakers seek quicker flood insurance relief

CLEARWATER — State lawmakers will push to get a flood-insurance bill passed and put into effect immediately when the state legislature reconvenes to make it easier for private companies to offer alternatives to the soaring cost of federal policies.

State Sen. Jeff Brandes, R-St. Petersburg, and state Rep. Larry Ahern, R-Seminole, said Tuesday that they think there’s broad, bipartisan support across the state to get the bill fast-tracked, speaking before a large audience from the real estate, insurance and tourism industries at the Pinellas Realtor Organization in Clearwater.
